Garmenjak Veli is a small island being a part of the Telascica National Park. A wonderful diving site is located on the west coast, enrapturing with both landform features and extraordinary richness of the sea life. It is possible to admire walls and caves covered by sponges, red and yellow gorgonians, which specimens are reaching even meters of height. This area is a settlement of exceptionally rare, recently discovered kind of sponge – carnivorous Asbestopluma hypogea – which it is possible to observe already at a depth of 24 meters. There are moray eels, octopus, large squid, codfish, scorpion fishes, Peter’s Fish and sloth bears. At 50 meters it is possible to find a small shipwreck of the fishing cutter, and swimming to the south you will come across the canyon full of cracks and caves. Due to significant depth, diving on Garmenjak Veli is intended only for technical divers. It is worthwhile to take camera with good source of light.
